MONMOUTH STADIUM RENOVATIONS APPROVED
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University’s planned renovations to Kessler Field at Monmouth Stadium were recently approved by the borough of West Long Branch, with construction set to being at the conclusion of the 2013 football season.
The five million dollar project will find a four-story building erected behind the Monmouth Stadium stands, which is home to Monmouth’s football, men’s and women’s lacrosse teams and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams.
“I am thrilled to know that Monmouth Stadium will experience this upgrade,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil. “It is needed to enhance the recruitment of all of our students as well as meeting the needs of our friends in the press and our fans, locally and across the nation. We look forward to sharing the same pride for the stadium as we do for the MAC.”
The four-story building will house indoor restrooms and concession stands on the first floor. While plans for the second floor have not been finalized, the floor will utilized to improve the student-athlete experience. The third floor of the building will house a state of the art press box, scoreboard operations, radio booths, camera and streaming video operations and coaching booths. The fourth floor will feature camera wells, a broadcast booth along with other multi-purpose space.
“This is a great first step, and a much needed upgrade to our football facility at Monmouth University,” said head football coach Kevin Callahan. “The building will enhance fan experience as well as provide more resources for the football program and our players. I am looking forward to the start of construction after the 2013 season.”
“The quality of this planned expansion will begin to meet the needs for our entry into the Big South for football (in 2014) as well as our entry into the MAAC (for lacrosse and track) and the addition of our men’s lacrosse program,” added McNeil.
The project has been funded through private donations and has already substantial commitments from donors including the Jules L. Plangere Jr. Family Foundation, Inc.
Monmouth University’s football team kicks off its 21st season on Thursday, August 29th, when the Hawks travel to play Montana State. The Hawks will host Lehigh University on Saturday, September 14th in the first of four home dates in 2013.
