Monmouth Cheerleading Mission Statement:
Monmouth University's Cheerleading squad aims to unite the students, alumni and fans in support of Monmouth University and its Athletics Department. We vow to honor old traditions, while continuing to spread Monmouth Pride throughout the school and community.
As a team, we will motivate and encourage each other to achieve our greatest potential and exceed our goals from the previous seasons. We recognize that this program is not built on one person, but on the hard work and dedication of the entire team. We will practice and perform with heart, always giving 110%. We will continue to lead by example and exhibit our respect for our teammates, our coach, ourselves and our University. Our dedication and commitment to Monmouth Cheerleading will be exemplified in our leadership both on and off the field.
We will strive to be our best and to make Monmouth Cheerleading an exemplary program across the nation.
Cheer Tryout Information
Monmouth Cheerleading tryouts for the 2015-2016 season will be held June 6-7 2015.
Please email Coach Ball at CBall@monmouth.edu to register for tryouts.
There will be a college prep clinic on March 15, 2015. This clinic will help any transfer, or high school student interested in cheering at the collegiate level. Come work with the Cheerleading Team that supports Monmouth University’s Division I Athletics programs to learn and experience collegiate cheerleading technique, terminology, skills and stunting! You do not need to be trying out for Monmouth Cheerleading, but if you intend to, this clinic is recommended.
Registration is 9:30-10:00 in Boylan Gymnasium
The clinic will be from 10-1pm

-A $35 non-refundable payment may be in cash or check made payable to: “Monmouth Cheerleading”

Monmouth University has one cheerleading squad. On average the team is compiled of 26-28 females. Monmouth Cheerleading is primarily a game team; however, we do compete at UCA College Cheerleading Nationals in January.
HOW TO PREPARE
It is strongly recommended that all candidates interested in tryout out for Monmouth Cheerleading attend a clinic the team offers at certain times during the season.
Most importantly, you must be an accepted student at Monmouth University. Please see admissions for more information. This is an activity that requires a great deal of athleticism. Our cheerleading team members regularly participate in cardiovascular workouts as well as strength and weight training. This will help to develop your skills as well as decrease risk of injury.

If you are planning a college visit and would like to speak with someone directly about our program or visit a practice, please contact the head coach, Courtney Ball. To ensure that we can accommodate your schedule, please email email@example.com at least two weeks before your visit.
This is a two-day tryout process. Team is comprised of talented athletes, exceptional leaders, scholars and students will school pride. You will be notified of your status after tryouts conclude day two.
Day 1 - Registration, Material & Technical Clinics
Registration – This day is mandatory. It will provide candidate with all of the necessary information and clearly explain the coaches’ expectations as a member of this program. You will need to bring the following:
▪ Copy of your last physical (must be within 9 months of tryout date)
▪ Copy of your insurance card (you cannot participate without this!!)
▪ MUSU completed form (* under related links)
▪ Proof of your acceptance to Monmouth University or a copy of your current Monmouth University ID
▪ Tryout applicant form with picture (* under related links)
▪ $35 *registration fee cash or check made payable to Monmouth University Cheerleading
*this fee is $25 if you participate in our College Cheerleading Preparation Clinic

Material, Stunts and Tumbling - While there is flexibility in the requirements, all athletes need to be able to execute advanced to elite level skills. A talented cheerleader is important, but a versatile cheerleader is more important. You will be required to execute the following:
Stunts: Stunts will be judged on difficulty and execution
*Suggested: full-up heel stretch full twisting cradle
New Members Tumbling:
Standing back handspring (min.)
Running tumbling pass (min. back handspring)
Standing BHS Tuck/Standing Tuck

▪ Tumbling and stunts will be evaluated on day one, unless the judges need to see it again for the formal tryout

On the final day of tryouts, athletes will demonstrate the fight song and cheer
*Tumbling and stunts may be performed again as per the judges’ request
Cheer tryout attire for final day includes:
Navy shorts (with briefs underneath), white sports bra with a white fitted tank top, and cheerleading sneakers. Hair should be pulled back neatly with a bow. Make up should be game appropriate.
*For all other sessions, fitted tank and shorts are appropriate. The collegiate look is an important so please consider attire that is appropriate and fits your athletic physique. No jewelry is allowed either day.
If for some reason you cannot attend tryout weekend, please email Courtney Ball no later than May 1, 2015 to get approval to submit a DVD. DVD submissions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Any DVD being submitted in lieu of a tryout will have to be received no later than May 10 and have a $35 tryout fee included with the DVD.
Monmouth Cheerleading Commitment:
Practice is typically three days a week for about two and half hours. Additionally tumbling is suggested 1-2 times a week. We cheer for football, men’s and women’s basketball as well as compete nationally. Monmouth Cheerleading firmly believes in giving back to the community and has acquired annual community service events in which we participate. Below are some, but not all of the events that we support.
Making Strides against Breast Cancer: Make a difference. Make history. Make Strides
Since 2004, the Monmouth University Cheerleaders have annually participated in the Point Pleasant Breast Cancer Walk. Every October we proudly wear our breast cancer awareness shirts, and raise funds to donate to the American Cancer Society.
The Big Event
Also in October, the cheerleaders give back to the community that supports them. Through this University program, the cheerleaders have cleaned rivers, churches, painted houses, cleaned the beach along with many other
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk
Since 2012, our cheerleaders have helped to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk. This walk takes place at Pier Village in West Long Branch. This walk aims to support those support those battling the blood cancer, remember those who have passed and honor those who have survived.
Relay for Life Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back
In 2008, Relay for Life joined the Monmouth University Campus in efforts to raise money and bring awareness to cancer. Since then, the Monmouth University Cheerleaders have been fortunate enough participate in this fantastic event. This is a noble cause where participants camp-out overnight, taking turns walking around the track helping to raise funds to fight cancer.
