POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Monmouth University women’s basketball team had three players score in double-figures, but Marist featured four players with at least 16 points to resist the Hawks’ comeback attempts to take the 76-66 win on Saturday night. Senior Christina Mitchell recorded her 13th career double-double in the loss, registering 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore McKinzee Barker matched a scoring career-high for the third time, adding 16 points and four rebounds. Monmouth drops to 12-14 (7-10 MAAC) on the season, and will travel to Rider this coming Tuesday. The Broncs are tied for the conference lead at 14-3 and have won seven straight games.

NOTES AND QUOTES

“We played with a lot of energy tonight which was good to see, but we just didn’t shoot the ball well. Marist hit a lot of threes in the first half, and when we would get stops we couldn’t capitalize on the other end. We were right there for most of the game, being on the verge of making that one shot that could give us that energy and push us over the edge, but we were never able to hit it. It was disappointing we weren’t able to shoot the ball a little bit better, because it might have been a different story.” -  Monmouth head coach Jenny Palmateer

-After Monmouth had led 16-12, Marist used a 7-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take the 19-16 advantage.

-Barker hit three triples in the first half to go into double-figures with 11 points.

-Despite Marist going 8-15 from three-point range in the first two quarters, Monmouth withstood and trailed by just seven heading into halftime at 40-33.

-After a back and forth frame, Marist maintained the seven point lead after three quarters at 60-53. The teams each scored 20 during the quarter.

-Monmouth cut the deficit to as little as five in the fourth quarter, but timely Marist shots propelled the Red Foxes to the 76-66 win.
