MONMOUTH BASEBALL FALLS TO NOTRE DAME SUNDAY, 4-0
CARY, NC- Tyler Ksiazek (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights) was strong on the mound for Monmouth, but Daniel Jung homered twice and Brad Bass fired seven shutout innings as Notre Dame topped MU baseball in Cary, NC Sunday, 4-0. Monmouth falls to 1-8 on the season, while the Fighting Irish improve to 3-8.
Neither team scored until the fourth, when Jung hit his first home run of the game, a solo shot to lead off the inning. He hit a second to right center in the sixth to extend the Notre Dame advantage to 2-0. MU threatened in between, putting two runners aboard in the fifth, but could not score.
A pair of singles to open the eighth inning got Notre Dame started, and Matt Vierling followed with a base hit to bring home both and make it 4-0 Notre Dame. The Hawks put two runners on again in the ninth but could not bring one across and fell in the finale of the Irish Classic.
