BASEBALL FALLS TO NO. 11 VIRGINIA MONDAY

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- Monmouth baseball was defeated at No. 11 Virginia Monday afternoon, 10-0 behind three UVa pitchers at Davenport Field. Monmouth is now 2-11 on the season, while the Cavaliers move to 14-3.

Virginia scored two runs via an error in the first, and added another in the third on Adam Haseley’s home run over the right field wall. Monmouth left runners aboard in the second, fourth and fifth innings while UVa added another in the fourth on Ernie Clement’s RBI single.

The Hawks kept the home team off the board until the eighth, when the Cavaliers erupted for six runs. Four of the six runs in the frame were charged as unearned tallies, as the Hawks committed four errors in the inning to allow Virginia to open up a 10-0 lead.

NOTES AND QUOTES

-Ryan Crowley notched a fourth inning single, and now has hits in his last three starts.
-Shaine Hughes now has a hit in all but one game this season, and four in a row.
-Danny Long collected his first hit in four games.
-Monmouth used a season-high eight pitchers in the game.

-Senior Justin Andrews made his first career start.
-Kyle Ajjan, Ryan Lillie, Ben Hoffman and Chris Hawryluk all turned in scoreless outings.
-Ajjan and Lillie each fired a scoreless frame.
-All three runs Brian Reiss allowed were unearned.

NUMBERS CRUNCH

-Andrews took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, in three innings.
-Alec Bettinger earned the win for Virginia in relief, tossing five scoreless innings out of the bullpen with seven strikeouts.
-Clement and Andy Weber had three hits apiece for Virginia.

UP NEXT
-Monmouth opens a three-game weekend series at George Washington on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
