MALVERN, PA – In its first event of the spring campaign, the Monmouth University men’s golf team compiled rounds of 307 and 309 to total 616 at Villanova’s Wildcat Invitational. Sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) paced the Hawks for the third time this season, navigating the par-71 White Manor Country Club in 149 strokes.

Ferriter opened play with 75 on Monday before taking a stroke off his second-round total on Tuesday. The second-year Hawk recorded par or better in 26 of the 36 holes and finished with a share of 41st on the individual leaderboard. Senior Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) registered 153, including an opening-round two-over-par 73, to finish four strokes in front of junior Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) and classmate Jesse Hazam (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) who both carded 157. Rookie Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury) closed out the Hawks’ card with 161 (80-81), while Patrick Lehrkinder (Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), playing as an individual, concluded the event with 160 after inking 79 and 81.

"Not a very good showing for our first event.  Tee to green we played well, but putting hurt us both days.  We will go back to work the next few days and get ready for the Lafayette Inivtational." Head Coach Dennis Shea

- Ferriter, who was two strokes off from matching his career-low 36-hole total, also led the Hawks at the Patriot Intercollegiate and La Salle’s Explorer Match Play in the fall. The sophomore has recorded a score in the 70s in 13 of the Hawks’ 14 total rounds.
- Whelen recorded a new career-low with an opening round 73, while finishing one stroke shy of matching his 36-hole best total.
- Lehrkinder, who made his third appearance of the season, matched his career low of 79 in the first round.
