NOTES AND QUOTES
“We did a lot of things well today. Amanda [Riley] pitched exceptionally well against a very good offensive team. We defended well and made some plays behind the pitchers that saved us from some big innings. During the first game, we continued to fight and make adjustments, and in game two we got a little taken aback by their pitchers floating changeup. We tip our hats to [Alana Evans], and we’ll have to have a better plan of attack next time we see her.” - Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg
-In game one, Reyes got Monmouth on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a homer to left center.
-In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Chloe Howerth led off with a double down the left field line. Holzman would later double to right center to score both Howerth and Reyes, who was hit by a pitch and stole second base.
-In three appearances this weekend, Riley threw an astounding 25.1 innings while giving up just one earned run. During the course of Friday and Saturday, the junior struck out 30 batters while throwing 379 pitches. In just two days, her ERA dropped from 4.12 to 3.47.
-Reyes’ home run in game one was her sixth of the season, which is now tied for the team lead with Holzman. The senior leads the team with 28 RBI and a .351 average.
-Balderas was the only Monmouth player with multiple hits today, as she went 2-for-4 in the game one win.
-Senior Sydney Underhill took the loss in game two, as the Gaels used a four-run second inning to earn the win.
The Hawks will play their first road game since April 8, as they travel to non-conference opponent Villanova on Tuesday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
