BASEBALL FALLS AT FAIRFIELD SUNDAY, 9-2
FAIRFIELD, CT- Monmouth Baseball got six shutout innings from the bullpen but fell at Fairfield in the MAAC series finale Sunday, 9-2. Six different Hawks had hits offensively and Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) homered, but the Stags plated nine in the first two innings to take the lead for good.
Mac Crispino got the scoring started for Fairfield with a two-run single in the first, part of a four-run frame to put the Stags up early. MU battled back in the second when Koniencki hit his career-high fourth home run, a two-run shot to cut the lead in half.
Fairfield immediately responded with a five-run second, highlighted by Dan Hopkins' two-RBI single, one of four run-scoring hits in the inning. MU put two runners on in the third but could not score, and Fairfield held on behind seven strong innings from Kyle Dube to take the series sweep by a 9-2 count.
