TRACK & FIELD CHURNS OUT 15 ALL-EAST SELECTIONS AT ECAC/IC4A MEETS

PRINCETON, NJ- The Monmouth University track & field teams produced 15 All-East performers this weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships hosted by Princeton University.

Driving rain starting from Friday night and lasting through to Sunday forced an alteration of the schedule of events, with 17 finals being competed for today. The women finished in fifth place with a program-record 36.5 team points, while the men's team finished in 17th.

Senior Tionna Garner's (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) time of 208.18 in the 800m claimed the silver medal and All-East designation for the Hawk. Senior Jenna Cupp (Newark Valley, NY/Newark Valley) took third place on the podium in the 1500m with her time of 4:26.59.

“This was another great finish for the women's team. This group raised the bar to a new level all year long - cross country, indoor and outdoor. Our seniors have a lot to be proud of, and our whole team learned they can compete on another level. ·         It was the 141st IC4A and the 34th ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship

·         The men's team finished in 17th place out of 100 schools, the men have finished in the top-20 in 12 of the last 15 years

·         The fifth place finish for the women's team was the best finish at the outdoor ECACs and second best overall (behind 3rd place finish. The women have finished in the top 8 in each of the last three years.

·         Senior captain Troy Andretta threw 181' 10” in the hammer to finished fourth, earning his third All-East honor

·         In the pouring rain on Saturday, Kennisha Okereke  took fifth in the hammer (180' 2”) while junior Alicia Hester placed seventh (177' 7”) for All-East honors

·         Junior captain Corey Murphy threw 17.09m in the shot put to earn All-East honors (4th overall). Murphy's throw of 165' 08” was also sixth in the discus

 

NUMBERS CRUNCH

·         Rachel Baker's time of 10:42.84 in the 3k Steeplechase took eighth

·         Sophomore Chandi Piiru finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:09.00

·         Andrea Olsen, Chandi Piiru, Cupp & Garner run a strong 3:45.60 to earn All-East with a sixth place finish in the 4x400

·         Junior Stephane Roones earned All-East honors again with a fifth place finish in the javelin, throwing 139' 9”

·         Sophomore Marc Orlando picked up his first All-East honor with an eighth place finish in the javelin

·         Bryan Sosoo's time of 10.76 in the IC4A final was eighth while freshman Peter Guerriero finished in 11th

·         Casey Sturts claimed All-East honors with her fifth place finish in the pole vault (12' 1.5”)

·         Michael Pepper was sixth in the triple jump, clearing 49' 2.25”

Monmouth athletes will compete in the NCAA Division I Championships First Round at Louisville, Kentucky on May 25-27.
