LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Tom Jakubowski (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford/Long Island) hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season and Austin Counsellor (Salem, NJ/Woodstown) fired five effective innings out of the bullpen, but MU baseball was defeated by Rider behind three runs in the eighth inning from the Broncs, 6-5 Monday afternoon.

Rider jumped to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on a Riley Mihalik RBI double to straightaway center and a Harrison McClure run-scoring single. The score remained 2-0 until the sixth, when Pete Papcun (Brick, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) chopped a base hit over third base to score two runs and tie the game. The next batter was Jakubowski, and he deposited a 2-0 offering over the right field wall for his ninth long ball of the year, capping a five-run inning for MU to make it 5-2 Hawks.

The Broncs got one back in the bottom of the inning on Kyle Johnson's RBI double before rallying in the eighth, trailing 5-3. Two base hits and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one away, and Johnson singled to cut it to a one-run game. Mihalik then lined a sacrifice fly to left field, tying the game on a close play at the plate. McClure slashed a run-scoring single inside of first to give Rider the 6-5 lead, the eventual final.
