Monmouth Hawks (7-7, 2-3 MAAC) at Siena Saints (4-12, 3-4 MAAC)

Led by Christina Mitchell’s first half double-double and Kayla Shaw’s career-high 21 points, the Monmouth University women’s basketball team ran past conference foe Saint Peter’s on January 7 by a score of 76-59. Mitchell ended the game with 11 points and 18 rebounds, which was three short of her career-high. The Hawks outscored the Peacocks 28-8 in the second quarter and led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter en route to their second conference win. Shaw’s performance earned her MAAC Rookie of the Week, and she is now averaging 11.6 points per game while averaging 21.9 minutes per game. Both Tyese Purvis and Shaw have gone into double-figures nine times this season. After three conference home games in six days, Monmouth will play their first road game in exactly a month when it takes on Siena.

Despite heading into Thursday with a 4-12 overall record, Siena won its last game at Iona on Tuesday, 58-46. The Saints improved to 3-4 in the conference behind 15 points and eight steals from sophomore guard Jackie Benitez. Siena held the opponent to their lowest scoring output of the season and limited Iona to just 34.7% from the field while forcing 23 turnovers. Benitez leads the team with 15.4 points per game and is also grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game. Senior forward Meghan Donohue is adding 13.3 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game this year, and junior guard Kollyns Scarbrough is scoring 11.3 points per contest with 5.9 rebounds per game.
