WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PREVIEW: HAWKS LOOK FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN AT EASTERN MICHIGAN TONIGHT

Monmouth Hawks (4-5, 0-2 MAAC) at Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-5, 0-0 MAC)
Led by freshman Kayla Shaw’s 13 points, the Monmouth University women’s basketball team defeated former NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson in the second home game of the season by a score of 72-63. The Hawks forced 31 turnovers and totaled 20 steals on the afternoon, while five players scored at least eight points as the team improved to a 4-5 record. Freshman Alexa Middleton narrowly missed a double-double, scoring nine points with a season-high 11 rebounds. Monmouth will look for its third win in five days when it travels to Eastern Michigan for a 7:00 PM tip on Monday.
SCOUTING THE EASTERN MICHIGAN EAGLES
Eastern Michigan has an identical record at Monmouth at 4-5. The Eagles are led by junior guard Sasha Dailey, who is averaging 20.2 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. Two other players are averaging double-figures in junior guard Micah Robinson (11.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and senior guard Phillis Webb (11.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg). Eastern Michigan’s four wins have come against Georgia State, Ferris State, Incarnate Word, and St. Bonaventure while its five losses have come against Morehead State, Wake Forest, Tulane, Northern Colorado, and Detroit Mercy. Monday night will wrap up a three-game home stand before the Eagles travel to Purdue on Saturday.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. EASTERN MICHIGAN
Monmouth and Eastern Michigan will meet for just the third time on Monday, with the Eagles winning both previous games. Last year in West Long Branch, EMU defeated Monmouth 78-68 despite three Hawks going in double-figures. Christina Mitchell notched a double-double in the loss, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Tyese Purvis added 11 points and four rebounds.
