NEW ROCHELLE, NY  – Led by a three-run first inning, sixth-seeded Fairfield defeated the fifth-seeded Monmouth University softball team in the winner's bracket on Friday, 4-0. The Stags hit an RBI triple that scored two runs and an RBI single to open the contest, and received a complete game, two-hit shutout from pitcher Destinee Pallotto. Senior Justene Reyes had the only two hits on the day for Monmouth, which were both singles. The Hawks will face the winner of #3 Marist and #4 Manhattan later today for a spot in the MAAC championship round.



-The last time the two pitchers faced each other, Riley threw 13 innings while Pallotto threw 12 in a 1-0 Stags win.

-In the top of the first inning, Fairfield led off with two straight singles. After a sacrifice bunt, Tori Reed brought in two runs with an RBI triple. The Stags' next batter singled to bring home Reed and give Fairfield the early 3-0 lead.

-Riley settled in after the first inning, as she did not allow a hit in the next four frames or a run until the seventh inning.

-The Stags added a run in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI infield single.

-After Reyes notched her second hit of the game, Fairfield's Pallotto ended the contest with a complete game, two-hit shutout.



-Senior Justene Reyes registered Monmouth's only two hits in the contest with a single in the bottom of the first inning and a single in the bottom of the seventh.

-Riley pitched another complete game while giving up six hits and four runs. She struck out five batters, and now has 226 total strikeouts on the season.

-In two games against the Hawks this season, Fairfield's Pallotto has registered 19.0 innings, nine hits, no runs, and 13 strikeouts.  



#5 Monmouth will face the winner of #3 Marist and #4 Manhattan at 4:00 PM today. The winner of that game will advance to the championship round against #6 Fairfield.
