ARLINGTON, VA- Monmouth baseball got 5.1 strong innings from Tyler Ksiazek (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights), but eventually fell to George Washington 4-0 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, VA. The Colonials take the final two games of the series after the Hawk won the opener.

Ksiazek fired four shutout innings, including a pair of frames where he faced the minimum, before George Washington got on the board with a pair of runs in the fifth. Joey Bartosic hit an RBI double and Andrew Selby added a run-scoring single to put the Colonials on top.

Selby hit an inside-the-park home run in the seventh to extend the lead to 3-0, and Robbie Metz later notched an RBI single to make it 4-0. Monmouth put runners aboard in seven of nine innings but were unable to get one across.

“Our pitching gave us a chance today. It’s getting to the point where we need to figure some things out offensively. On a positive note, Brambilla and Hoffman executed their role in the ballgame well.” – head coach Dean Ehehalt

-Monmouth wraps up the early season road schedule 3-13 before returning home this week.

-Mike Brambilla and Ben Hoffman each came on to get important eighth inning outs.
-MU got two hits off the bats of freshmen, with Johnny Zega and John LaRocca notching hits.
-The Hawks drop the series at GW after winning the opener.


-Tyler Ksiazek fired 5.1 innings, allowing two runs and striking out three before taking the loss.
-The Hawks were outhit 11-5.
-Joe Molettiere struck out three in his two innings pitched.
-Four Colonials had multiple hit games.
-Elliott Raimo earned the win for GW with six scoreless innings.
-Will Kobos picked up the three-inning save.

-Monmouth opens its home schedule on Wednesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. against Wagner.
