SWIMMING FALLS TO FORDHAM AND FAIRFIELD AFTER QUICK TURNAROUND
BRONX, NY – Three days after opening its season at home, Monmouth University’s men’s and women’s swimming teams traveled to Bronx, NY for a meet with Fordham and Fairfield. The men’s team was outlasted by Fordham 189.5-75.5 and Fairfield 202-68, while the women were defeated by Fordham 191-66 and Fairfield 199-59.

-Junior Anne Skimmons took fifth in the women’s 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:06.16. Later, Skimmons swam a 1:02.39 in the 100-yard butterfly.
-Freshman Noah Babik had two top-five finishes on the night, with the first coming in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.83) and the other coming in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.37).
-Freshman Eric Sorensen finished fifth during the men’s 100-yard backstroke (57.68) while placing third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.76).
-Freshman Jaclyn Greening notched a fifth place finish in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.01), and found the same result in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.28).

-Two Monmouth teams finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay, including the women’s quartet of Ann Tompkins, Jaclyn Greening, Anne Skimmons, and Mary Emich and the men’s squad of Eric Sorensen, Noah Babik, Mitch Simmer, and Frank Nicola.
-During the women’s 200-yard backstroke, Brianna Pongrac (2:24.15) and Ann Tompkins (2:26.81) both swam personal-best times. Pongrac also swam a personal-best time in the 500-yard freestyle, ending in 5:53.27.
-In the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Emich, Skimmons, Tompkins, and Keelen raced an impressive time of 1:45.02.
Monmouth’s next meet will be on November 11, when they are back in West Long Branch for a 5:00 PM meet against MAAC rival Iona. Eight days later, the Hawks will host another MAAC opponent in Manhattan on November 19.
