MONMOUTH DEFEATED AT SAINT PETERíS, 71-61
JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Monmouth men’s basketball team cut into the Saint Peter’s lead several times but could not get even as they fell at the Yanitelli Center on Monday evening, 71-61. Micah Seaborn (Fort Worth, TX/Prime Prep Academy) scored 19 points in the defeat for Monmouth.
Monmouth trimmed the Saint Peter’s lead to a narrow as two at 9:24 when Collin Stewart (Glenville, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) finished a weakside layup to make it 40-38. Saint Peter’s was able to get the advantage back to eight, eventually going up 11 with 5:52 left on a Trevis Wyche triple. Seaborn’s three at 1:09 trimmed it back to a six-point game, and Je’lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep/Oklahoma) had a chance to get it to three after MU took one away but it fell short and the Peacocks made all their free throws down the stretch, finishing 17-17 from the line on the evening.
Monmouth was held to a season-low 19 points in the first half, while also holding the Peacocks under 40%. Saint Peter’s, who hit two shots with the shot clock expiring including one from Cavon Baker at 8:08 from nearly half court, made 10 field goals in the opening 20 minutes, seven of which came from downtown.
