MONMOUTH OUTLASTS SIENA ON SENIOR NIGHT, 77-73
WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- On senior night in West Long Branch, Monmouth’s final 13 points came from seniors Justin Robinson (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) and Je’lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep/Oklahoma) as MU topped Siena on Friday night at OceanFirst Bank Center, 77-73 to win its 15th in a row.
Diago Quinn (New York, NY/Lake Forest Academy) hit two free throw with 6:02 left to put the Hawks up one, a lead Monmouth would not relinquish. Siena cut it to one before the Hawks got it all the way to six on a Je’lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep/Oklahoma) runner in the lane with 1:57 to go. Siena scored four straight to get it as close as two before Justin Robinson (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) hit a step back jumper with 12 seconds to go to effectively ice the game.
The Hawks used runs of 13-2 and 14-2 separately in the first half to build a seven-point lead at halftime. Neither team led by more than four in a back-and-forth opening nine minutes before Micah Seaborn (Fort Worth, TX/Prime Prep Academy) drilled a three following a Louie Pillari (Tinton Falls, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) take to make the Monmouth leads eight at 11:03. Siena answered with their own run to take a one-point lead before the Hawks finished the period on an 8-3 spurt to lead 42-35 at the intermission.
