JUSTIN ROBINSON SCORES 40 POINTS AS MONMOUTH UPENDS SIENA, 102-82

ALBANY, NY- Justin Robinson (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) scored a career-high 40 points, including eight three pointers as Monmouth’s big second half led them to a program-best 12th win in a row, 102-82 at Siena on Monday night.

Monmouth made its run after the game was tied at 59, scoring 13 of the games next 14 points to go upo 72-60 at 10:51. The MU lead didn’t grow larger than 13 until Je’lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep/Oklahoma) hit a three to make it a 15-point game with 7:19 to go. The Saints came back on a 6-0 run to cut it to 86-76 at 4:38 before MU ended the game on a 16-6 run to win by 20.

Down the stretch, Robinson netted a layup before drilling a long three from straight on, plus the foul at 2:52 to get to 35 points on the night. Two possessions later, the senior drilled a wing triple to set his career-high, and off a quick Siena miss, darted the floor to get to 40 points, the seventh Hawk to ever do so.

MU lead by as many as 10 in the opening half, taking a double-digit lead for the first time at 9:11 when Justin Robinson (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) darted to the rim in transition, two of his 12 first-half points. The Hawks went back up seven on Pierre Sarr’s (Dakar, Senegal/Roselle Catholic) second-chance layup, but Siena charged late to finish the half on an 8-2 run, capped by Marquis Wright’s corner triple in the final seconds of the period to cut the Hawks lead at the intermission to one at 47-46. MU shot 59.4% in the first 20 minutes, while Siena was 55.2% from the floor in the first.
