WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ
– Eight Monmouth University Athletics’ programs earned perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for the 2015-16 academic year, it was recently revealed by the NCAA.

“Monmouth is as proud to celebrate these perfect academic scores as it is with victories on the courts and fields,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil stated. “Our students continue to impress us with their superior academic and athletic skills. Congratulations to the coaches, professors and our academic support team who continue to challenge and afford our students such a quality educational experience.”

Monmouth’s men’s and women’s basketball programs were recognized with perfect APR scores (1000), while women’s team also achieved a perfect four-year average. Women’s Golf also earned a multi-year score of 1000, and men’s and women’s soccer, women’s bowling, women’s swimming and women’s tennis each registered perfect scores for the 2015-16 school year.

The Academic Progress Rate (APR) holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.

APR is calculated as follows:

  • Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.
  • A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.
  • In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
