HEMPSTEAD, NY –
Hofstra jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead and never trailed in an 11-9 victory over the Monmouth University men’s lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Two first-quarter goals by Brendan Kavanagh helped the Pride secure the early lead and the home side went into halftime with an 8-3 cushion. The lead stretched to as many as six for Hofstra (9-3) and the Pride led 11-5 after the third quarter.

Monmouth outscored Hofstra 4-0 in the final 15 minutes, but the deficit was too much to overcome for the Hawks.

Freshman midfielder Justin Schwenk went 16-for-21 on faceoffs, sophomore attack Eamon Campbell scored twice and contributed an assist and senior goalkeeper Nick Hreshko made five saves for Monmouth.
