FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 10 (2-1)
Wagner 8 (1-2)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –
The Monmouth University men’s lacrosse team raced out to a 4-0 lead and held off a late Wagner rally in an eventual 10-8 victory in its home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

Four different goal scorers helped Monmouth secure the four-goal advantage midway through the game’s opening quarter. Wagner got on the board a minute later, but Tyler Keen scored the first of his three goals to give the Hawks a 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

The Seahawks put in the only goal of the second quarter, outscored Monmouth 2-1 in the third, and ultimately tied it up at 7-7 by scoring six of the next eight goals. After Wagner’s man-up tally by Paul DeVita, Keen scored his second and the first of three straight Monmouth goals to put the game out of reach.

NOTES & QUOTES
"This afternoon’s game was full of highs and lows for us. I think it was obvious that we lost our focus for a stretch in the middle of the game and we were very sloppy, but on the flip side there were times where we played some of our best lacrosse of the year. It's still early in the season and we have a lot of room for improvement, but it was nice to see us get off to a fast start and execute down the stretch to earn our second win of the season.”
