Monmouth built a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and led by as many as 18, but a 63-46 Fairfield advantage during the last three quarters gave the Stags the win on Wednesday night, 71-68. The Hawks shot 9-16 from three point land in the first half, but hit just two triples in the second half and were unable to hold off the late Stags push. Freshman Kayla Shaw led Monmouth with 17 points on five three-pointers, and now has 38 triples in 13 games. Monmouth is 4-2 in their last six games, but dropped to 1-3 in the conference after Wednesday’s loss. The Hawks will have another quick turnaround and host their third straight conference game on Saturday, when they welcome St. Peter’s at 2:00 PM.
