NEW BRITAIN, CT – Monmouth University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished in the top seven at the Central Connecticut State 14th Annual Mini-Meet on Friday afternoon. Senior Jenna Cupp led the women’s team, finishing eighth overall in the 3k field of 127 runners. Cupp paced the women to a fourth place finish out of 17 Division 1 teams. Sophomore Kyle Mueller once again led the men’s team, as he finished sixth overall out of 117 runners in the 5k. The men finished seventh overall out of 17 teams.



 “This is the second year we’ve used this meet as a tune-up for the MAAC Championship. Last year we had the whole team here and this year was just a partial team. For our people who raced, we did accomplish a lot today and worked on some important race elements that will serve us well in our three championship meets ahead.” - Monmouth head coach Joe Compagni


-Jenna Cupp’s time of 10:24.44 was the third fastest time in Monmouth history at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.


-Kyle Mueller notched the fourth fastest time in Monmouth history at the meet (15:17.4), besting his time last year by 34 seconds.


-Freshman Ryan Rafferty broke the freshman course record set by teammate Ryan Mitchell last year, taking the fifth best time in school history.


-Fellow freshman Henry Sappey’s time is ninth-best in school history.


-Maggie Hanlon recorded the fourth fastest time in Monmouth history at the meet.


-In her first cross country race, senior Tionna Garner ran the ninth fastest time in school history.



-Behind Cupp on the women’s side was Maggie Hanlon (10:30.2), Tionna Garner (10:44.4), Rachael Baker (10:48.1), Kristen Rodgers-Erickson (10:54.3), Abby Baker (10:56.8), and Jenifer Plummer (11:12.2).


-In the women’s 3k field of 127, Hanlon took 13th, Garner took 26th, Rachael Baker placed 35th, Rodgers-Erickson took 44th, Abby Baker placed 50th, and Plummer finished 69th.  


-Behind Mueller on the men’s side was Ryan Rafferty (15:32.0), Henry Sappey (15:46.6), Rob DeFalco (16:08.8), Kevin Summonte (16:18.7), Ryan Mitchell (16:25.1), and Bryan Cabral (17:01.2).


-In the men’s 5k field of 117, Rafferty took 18th, Sappey placed 35th, DeFalco finished 61st, Summonte took 67th, Mitchell placed 74th, and Cabral crossed in 84th.



Next up for Monmouth is the MAAC Championship, which will be held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday, October 29. The men will begin at 8:00 AM and the women will run at 9:00 AM in Orlando, FL.
