LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – In its fourth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, the Monmouth University women’s cross country team ran to a third place finish while the men claimed sixth in Florida on Saturday morning. Four women and two men ran to an individual top-25 finish, including Jenna Cupp, Allie Wilson, Maggie Hanlon, Molly McKeon, Kyle Mueller, and Ryan Rafferty. Cupp and Mueller were named to the All-MAAC team, while the freshman Rafferty was voted to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.

NOTES AND QUOTES

“The atmosphere for the championships was tremendous and a memorable event for the athletes for sure. Our women’s team is a veteran group and they raced very tough. Some of our key men were not healthy and it certainly cost us, but we have some younger guys who really stepped up.” – Monmouth head coach Joe Compagni

-The women have now placed third in the MAAC Championship for two straight years. Last year, the team was led by Cupp (21:55.77) and McKeon (22:02.40), who both finished in the top-15 overall.

-The women’s average time on the 6k course was 22:29.54, while the men’s average time on the 8k course was 26:07.11.

-Cupp led the way for the women, finishing ninth overall in the field of 131 runners. Wilson was not far behind, taking 16th. Hanlon placed 20th with Molly McKeon taking 23rd. Senior Rachael Baker crossed the line in 32nd. Fellow seniors Kristen Rodgers-Erickson (52nd), Abby Baker (57th), Tionna Garner (63rd), Danielle Leavitt (64th), and Jessica Ball (83rd) all finished their MAAC championship careers with a hand in back-to-back third place finishes.

-In the men’s field of 137, Mueller took 12th overall. Rafferty was the fourth freshman to cross the line, taking 24th. Senior Graham Huggins-Filozof finished in 31st, while Ryan Mitchell placed 59th. Juniors Rob DeFalco (66th) and Jake Howell (67th) crossed the finish line together. Seniors Matt Nelson (74th) and Kevin Summonte (92nd) wrapped up their MAAC careers as well.
