WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY RANKED REGIONALLY BY USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, LA – After a third place finish at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, the Monmouth University women’s cross country team was ranked 15th in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). It is the first time either cross country team has appeared on the regional rankings this year.
"Our women have been making positive progress all season,” said Monmouth head coach Joe Compagni. “They raced aggressively at the MAAC Championship against some great teams, and we're looking forward to some of our best finishes at our two upcoming championship meets."
Last Saturday marked the second straight season in which the women’s team finished third in the conference championship. The team was led by senior Jenna Cupp, who placed 9th overall in the field of 131 runners. Cupp navigated the 6k course in 22:00.12, and was followed by teammate Allie Wilson in 16th, who crossed in 22:18.38. Behind Cupp and Wilson were Maggie Hanlon (20th), Molly McKeon (23rd), and Rachael Baker (32nd).
Women’s cross country has five top-5 finishes this season, including wins at the Monmouth XC Kickoff and the 22nd Annual Monmouth Invitational. The team ran to a second place finish at the Fordham Invitational and a fourth place finish at Central Connecticut State.
Both the women’s and men’s cross country teams will travel to State College, PA on November 11 for the NCAA Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. On November 19, the teams will participate in the ECAC & IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY.
