The Monmouth University field hockey team, the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions, is set to travel to Holland and Italy for a trip of sightseeing, community service and friendly matches.  The 10-day excursion begins on May 16th when the team departs New York for Amsterdam.

The trip also serves as a homecoming for current Hawks Julie Laszlo and Josephine van der Hoop, who both hail from the Rotterdam area.

“We are so excited to be taking our team to Holland and Italy,” said head coach Carli Figlio.  “The cultural and playing experience will be one our student-athletes will remember forever.  Being able to play the top level teams in Holland and have some of our international players show us their hometown will be a highlight.”

The team and coaching staff will tour Rotterdam, Kinderdjik Windmills, Hague, Scheveningen, and Amsterdam, while visiting Anne Frank's House and taking in a Premier Field Hockey League playoff match.  The Blue and White will compete against Victoria HC D1, Voorne HC and Rotterdam HC, all in the Netherlands.  When in Italy, the Hawks will explore Vatican City, with stops inside the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Square, and all of Rome's best sites.

The Hawks will return to West Long Branch on May 26th.  It will mark the first overseas trip for the field hockey program which just completed its 20th season of Division I competition.
