FIELD HOCKEY EARNS 4-0 WIN OVER HC ROTTERDAM
ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS- Monmouth University's field hockey team earned a 4-0 win over HC Rotterdam on Friday, on the third day of competition for the Hawks.
In a display of offensive prowess, Monmouth outshot Rotterdam 20-2 with Kelly Hanna (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City/Rutgers) scoring a pair of goals and assisting on another to lead Monmouth. Josephine van der Hoop (Rotterdam, The Netherlands/Wolfert van Borselen) registered the game's second goal and assisted on another against her home club team. Monmouth's third goal was scored by rising senior Sydney Southard (Lorton, VA/South County) and was assisted by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year Julie Lazlo (Rotterdam, The Netherlands/Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum). MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Christen Piersanti (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had three saves for the Hawks. Monmouth held a 6-1 advantage in corners.
During its 10-day excursion, Monmouth will tour Rotterdam, Kinderdjik Windmills, Hague, Scheveningen, and Amsterdam, while visiting Anne Frank's House and taking in a Premier Field Hockey League playoff match. When in Italy, the Hawks will explore Vatican City, with stops inside the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Square, along with Rome's best sites.
Today's game against HC Rotterdam wraps up the third and final day of competition for the Hawks.
