SIMSBURY, CT – In its first event of the fall season, the Monmouth University men’s golf team scored back-to-back rounds of 310 en route to a 12th place finish at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate, held at the par-72 Hop Meadow Country Club this weekend.

Senior Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) paced the Hawks over the 36-hole event, firing rounds of 75 and 77 for a total of 152 and a share of 29th overall. Sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) completed the tournament three strokes behind Whelan with 155 after rounds of 77 and 78, while junior Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) posted 75 and 82 to finish with 157. Junior Chase Makowski (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) and senior Jesse Hazam (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) both carded 161 over the two-day event.

NOTES & QUOTES
“Our goal is to break 300 and shooting 310 both rounds is not going to get the job done. We have to have more consistency from our fourth and fifth guys and have someone go low if we want to be able to compete. We will take what we learned this weekend and build from it as we prepare for our next tournament.” – Head Coach Dennis Shea

- It was the first time that Whelan has led the Blue and White in an event.
- It was Burke’s 12th time in his Monmouth career he has carded a round of 75 or better.
- Sophomore Patrick Lehrkinder (Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) competed as an individual, posting 164.
