LORTON, VA – In a stacked field, the Monmouth University men’s golf team shot 920 over 54-holes at the Fifth Annual Patriot Intercollegiate, held at the Laurel Hills Golf Club. Sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) paced the Hawks, compiling a three-round score of 222 after three-straight rounds in the 70s.

In the opening round, Ferriter fired 73, the team-best for the event, before following up with rounds of 74 and 75 to complete the tournament with 222, good to claim a share of 33rd out of 112 competitors. Freshman Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury) carded 75 in his first collegiate round before inking rounds of 77 and 78 to finish with 230, three shots in front of Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) who completed the event with 79-78-76. Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) was the fourth Hawk into the clubhouse, registering 79-76-80 to finish a pair of shots behind Whelan, while rookie Nikolas Maff (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) turned in back-to-back rounds of 85 and 87 to finish his first tournament with 257.

“I think we averaged 310 in our first event and we averaged 307 this time out on a much tougher golf course with a very tough, competitive field so it is a step in the right direction. We are not where we need to be as we haven’t reached the magic number of 300, we haven’t had someone ‘go low’ and we haven’t had any support from the back-end. But it is a work in progress and we will take baby steps as 307 is a good move as we need to continue to get better. On a positive note, I am pleased with Drake and Andy’s performances; there is going to be some more good things coming from those guys.”

- Ferriter’s total of 222 is his career-best in a 54-hole tournament, shaving off six strokes from his previous low.
- It is the first time Ferriter has led the Hawks’ card in his career.
- Ferriter and Whelan each have five rounds in the 70s this season.
- Stock and Maff both made their collegiate debuts.
