DEAL, NJ - Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville [Sacred Heart]) recorded his first career first place finish as the junior led the way for the Monmouth University men’s golf team, which finished third in the annual Monmouth Invitational, held at the par-71 Deal Country Club.

Burke fired one-over-par 72 on the afternoon, finishing in a three-way tie for first place with Manhattan’s Charles Seward and Fairleigh Dickinson’s U Minn Woon. Using the USGA’s recommended tiebreaking procedure, Seward was awarded medalist honors via his back-nine 35, one stroke better than Burke, who duplicated 36 on both the front and back.

Freshman Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury) finished with a share of fourth with two-over-par 73, four shots in front of senior Jesse Hazam (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) who carded 77. Sophomore Drake Ferriter (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) navigated the course in 78 shots, while senior Tommy Whelan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) completed the day two shots behind Ferriter to close out the card for the Blue and White, which shot 300, five shots behind FDU which claimed the team crown.

Playing as individuals, freshman Nick Maff (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished tied with Ferriter with 78, while sophomore classmates Satish Gopalaswamy (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) and Patrick Lehrkinder (Little Silver, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) finished with 79 and 82, respectively.

“Each match we are getting closer to that 300 [or better] mark and we matched it today which was good to see. We need to limit our mental mistakes; missing putts and hitting a few more greens and we are going to be there. It is a work in progress and things are getting better day-by-day, match-by-match. Kyle had a good round today and it was nice to see him get back to going low and Andy did a nice job finishing up. We need to get those big numbers off the scorecard and we will be in good shape in the future. ” –Head Coach Dennis Shea

- Burke, who posted a season low, records his first first-place result of his career, while earning his fourth top-five finish.
- Stock’s fourth place finish is his first top-five result.
- For the first time in his career, Ferriter was slotted No. 1 on the Hawks’ card.
- Ferriter’s 10 rounds this year are in the 70s, while Whelan’s streak was halted at nine rounds.
- Hazam registered an eagle on a par-5.
- Gopalaswamy made his collegiate debut in the event.
