MEN’S GOLF TABBED SEVENTH IN MAAC PRESEASON POLL
EDISON, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference head coaches have selected the Monmouth University men’s golf team to finish the conference tournament in seventh place, according to the annual preseason coaches’ poll, released Tuesday morning.
Siena landed seven first-place votes en route to 78 points and the top spot followed by Manhattan 10 points behind in second. Fairfield garnered 54 points to edge Iona’s 53 tallies for third, while Rider and Saint Peter’s sit in fifth and sixth with 39 and 37 points, respectively. Niagara (27 points) and Canisius (18 points) finished behind the Blue and White, which earned 31 points, to round out the nine-team poll.
Monmouth competed in six events this fall, registering a team average of 305.8. The Hawks, who ended the first half of the season with a sixth place result at the Lehigh Invitational, was paced in the fall by freshman Andy Stock (Danbury, CT/Danbury). The rookie, who has competed in all but one event, accumulated a 76.4 stroke average to go along with a top-five finish to his credit. Sophomore Drake Ferriter’s (Ramsey, NJ/Bergen Catholic) average sits .1 shot behind Stock, while junior Kyle Burke (West Sayville, NY/Sayville), who earned a first place result at the Monmouth Invitational, enters the spring with a 77.0 stroke average.
The 2017 MAAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships will be held April 21-23 at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
