EDISON, NJ – Returning five golfers from last year’s second place team, the Monmouth University women’s golf team was selected to finish third at the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

University at Albany and defending champions Quinnipiac landed in a tie for the top stop with 71 points, combining for eight of the nine first place votes.  MU earned 60 points to land eight points ahead of Siena and nine tallies ahead of Dayton, which earned the final first place nod, while Hartford (35 points), Niagara (29 points), Fairfield (27 points) and La Salle (9 points) rounded out the nine-team poll.

The Hawks’ second place finish in 2016 was the highest result at a conference championship in program history.  Monmouth was home to two top-10 finishers in Sarah Kokotajlo (Ewing, NJ (Ewing) and Faith Garcia (Stamford, CT/Staples).  Kokotajlo became the fourth Hawk to earn second overall at the conference championship finishing one shot behind on the individual leaderboard, while classmate Garcia earned a share of ninth overall.

The Hawks have teed off in five events this season, earning three top-10 finishes, along with a third place result in a nine-team field.  Junior Erin DiDonato (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) paces the team with an 81.9 stroke average, followed by sophomore Haley Goodling (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) who has an 82.3 average and a top-five result to her credit.  Garcia, who has landed in the top-10 at Lehigh, enters the spring .2 shots behind Goodling.

The 2017 MAAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships will be held April 21-23 at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
