Bucknell (9-3) - 2

Monmouth (2-5) – 6

WASHINGTON, DC – A three-run sixth inning propelled the Monmouth University softball team to a 6-2 victory over Bucknell in the last day of the George Washington Colonial Classic. Four different players hit an RBI in the win, including Justene Reyes’ two-RBI double to extend the Hawks lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth. In the second game of the afternoon, Monmouth and George Washington were tied at seven in the fourth inning as the game was called for darkness. Katie Baron hit a grand slam and Amber Wozniak hit a three-run home run in the cancelled contest.

“I am really proud of our team today. We grew up as a group and found ways to fight through adverse situations. In game one, Amanda threw a nice game against a solid offense. Offensively, we created runs as a team and found ways to score with two outs. Good things happen when we are focused on doing whatever it takes. We are disappointed we didn’t get to finish game two. Katie Baron hit a grand slam and Amber Wozniak’s three-run home run to tie the game in the fourth would have been her first career hit. While the game didn’t count, our resiliency is a huge positive that we can take away heading into our spring break games.” – Monmouth head coach Shannon Salsburg

-Freshman Kayla Rosado picked up her first career RBI in the bottom of the first inning, hitting a single up the middle to score Justene Reyes. Rosado would later hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third.

-Amanda Riley hit her third career home run in the second inning against Bucknell, putting Monmouth on top 2-0.

-After Bucknell picked up two runs in the fifth inning to cut it to 3-2, the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including an RBI single from Chloe Howerth and a 2-RBI double from Justene Reyes.

-In the win against Bucknell, Amanda Riley did it all. The junior went all seven innings while giving up just one earned run. She struck out eight batters while allowing seven hits. Riley also hit a home run in the second inning to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

-The Hawks built a 3-0 lead after scoring a run in the first, second and third.

-Rosado ended the game going 2-3 with two RBI. Reyes was also 2-3 with two RBI.

-Monmouth racked up 10 hits in the win.

The Hawks will compete in Clearwater, FL from March 10 to March 19. Monmouth will play in the Under Armour Showcase as well as the Clearwater Parks & Rec/Michele Smith Spring Break Invitational.
